The Region of Southwestern Ontario is home to a robust tender fruit and vegetable industry. The fruit and vegetable industry accounts for nearly 90% of Ontario’s 50-million-ton harvest of apples, apricots, blueberries, cherries, grapes, strawberries, rhubarb, plums, broccoli, celery, cucumbers, cabbage, corn, carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, onions, potatoes, spinach, squash, zucchini, asparagus, beans and much more… Local farmers rely heavily upon thousands of migrant farm workers from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean who are permitted to work for up to eight months through a Canadian immigration program. The Diocese of Huron is committed to supporting the practical, Pastoral and Spiritual needs of these workers during their stay in Canada.
